Saudah Al AkbarSaudah Al-Akbar is a Philadelphia Jazz vocalist. At age of 14, Jazz legend, Max Roach, provided her with a scholarship to the Jazz in July Workshop at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There she studied with jazz masters such as Sheila Jordan, Dr. Billy Taylor, Dr. Yusef Lateef and Max Roach.  Saudah received her BA from Berklee College of Music. Ms. Al-Akbar has performed in many venues including Lincoln Center, the Blue Note, Free Library Of Philadelphia, Irvine Auditorium, American Philosophical Society, Venice Island Performing Arts & Recreation Center and the Arch Street Meeting House.

M AndrewsMichael Andrews is a incredibly gifted Jazz vocalist, who is often compared to the likes of Johnny Hartman, Arthur Prysock & Joe Williams. Andrews sings a wide variety of music including Standards, R & B, Spirituals, Jazz and Show tunes, and enchants with his velvety smooth bass-baritone voice. Andrews has performed as a feature artist with Big Bands such as; The Midnight Sun Orchestra, The Jazz Lobsters Big Band and The Clef Club Community Big Band. He has performed at venues such as The SugarHouse Casino (Philadelphia), The Philadelphia Clef Club, Dante Hall (Atlantic City), Mohonk Mountain House (the Catskills, NY) The Washington National Cathedral (Washington, DC), The Madame C. J. Walker House (Indianapolis, IN) The Coconut Grove (Phillipines), The Virginia Opera House and many summer festivals.

beth fbBeth Feldman Brandt is a poet and her writing has investigated such diverse themes as atomic clocks, ocean habitats and The Origin of Species. Her work has been published in Philadelphia Stories, The Quay Journal of the Arts, The Mad Poet's Review and by Greenleaf Poetry Press. Her poem, "Transmutation", based on the life of Charles Darwin, was set to music by composer Andrew Litts and performed by Network for New Music. Beth has served as an artist-in-residence at the Ragdale Foundation. She is the Executive Director of the Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation that supports arts and cultural programs in Philadelphia and is Chair of the Poet Laureate Committee for the City of Philadelphia.

Shamika ByrdShamika Byrd is a classically trained  vocalist, actress and producer, who began her career singing gospel on her grandmother’s bus trips. She is a graduate of Eastern University and toured Europe, singing Gospel and Negro spirituals to sold out crowds. It is the synthesis of traditional Gospel music, with her Classical music training that ultimately converge in Jazz, which fuels Shamika Byrd's creativity. She has performed at the Venice Island Performing Arts Center, Welcome America Festival at Penns Landing, Berks Jazz Festival, Lancaster Avenue Jazz Festival, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Chris’ Jazz Café, Firehouse Café and other venues.

selinaSelina Carrera is a Philadelphia born songwriter, singer, rapper, & poet, who constantly experiments using her smooth Sade meets TLC vocals. Working under Monarch Music Group as a songwriter and vocalist, she met Pras Michel of the Fugees and  created the group ‘Axixs’ combining hip-hop, soul, and pop. In early 2011 Selina met Lauryn Hill, which led to Selina becoming one of Ms. Hill’s background singers. While working closely with Ms. Hill, Selina began to develop her own unique sound and started performing and recording regularly, while still collaborating and writing  for other artists. J ConstanceJacqueline Constance is a Philly based singer and songwriter, who blends her command of R&B and Hip-hop into a swirling emotional stew. With a warm, yet strident voice she creates daring and fiery stories in sound. Not one to wait for a musician to make her magic happen Jacqueline also produces some of her own material. Armed with just a mic, her digital sampling, foot pedal and a small mixer, Jacqueline turns breaths, sighs and words into funky orchestral pastures for her lyrics to frolic through. Born and raised in the Mt Airy section of Philadelphia, Jacqueline attended the legendary CAPA High School, which spawned such artists as the Roots, Boys to Men and Amel Larriuex. L Dixon Lamont Dixon aka Napalm Da Bomb, has been a prominent presence on the Philadelphia poetry scene for many years. He demonstrates what he describes as "vibepoetics" - an eclectic mixing of multiple artistic genres to provide dramatic language arts education. Dixon appears on various jazz CDs including: Awaiting The Spirit, The Po-Jazz Connection, African Rhythm Tongues and In The Now. In 2007, he released his CD, Pigments of My Imagination. “Napalm's” poetry has also been published in many magazines and anthologies. His latest book of poetry is Come Ride My Poems. Dixon performs regularly with his band The Jazz Poetics. Lamont served as co-executive producer for the Phila. segment of HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam.

P DovePheralyn Dove lives in a state of perpetual gratitude. As a poet, she has appeared on stages in her native Philadelphia, New York City, Paris and Rome. Dove portrays 17 characters in her one-woman show, Little Girl Blue, which is a multimedia odyssey of a Black woman’s journey from victim to victor. A graduate of Hampton University, Dove is the author of Color in Motion, a book of poetry with a foreword by legendary drummer Max Roach. gretchen eGretchen Elise is a West Philly-based singer-songwriter whose jazz-flavored, audience participation performances are unforgettable. V Shayne V. Shayne Frederick is a pianist, vocalist and poet. He began his formal musical study at Dartmouth College, and later, in a Jazz ensemble in Philadelphia led by legendary organist Trudy Pitts. V. Shayne was born in North Carolina to musician parents - his mother, a pianist and vocalist, and his father, a saxophonist. As a self-taught musician, his craft has been honed at a multitude of venues over the last decade including, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Barnes Foundation, SugarHouse Casino, Suzanne Roberts Theatre, Resorts Casino, Society Hill Playhouse, Clef Club, African-American Museum in Philadelphia, and others. Positioned to be one of the premiere jazz vocalists of Philadelphia, V. Shayne has a melodic classic sound with a contemporary and creative personal touch.

EllaElla Gahnt is a Philly-based Jazz vocalist who has been dubbed Philly s Class Act by local media and fans. She has wowed audiences at most of the areas major venues including Kimmel Center, West Oak Lane Jazz Festival, Philadelphia Museum of Art Art After Five Series, Painted Bride Art Center, Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, and Summer Jazz Festival hosted by The Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation in Atlantic City, NJ. In 2005, Ella was named Jazz Ambassador by the School District of Philadelphia for her contributions in support of Philly Jazz. Justin GrahamJustin Graham is a seasoned singer/songwriter and guitarist. Hailing from Willingboro NJ, Justin has been blessing Philadelphia stages with his soulful blend of acoustic guitar, R&B and hip-hop vocals for several years. He has performed in the Who Got The Jazz Series; a collaboration between  PJP and Hiphop music promoter, Veteran Freshman, at World Cafe Live. C HarrisCarol Harris is a Philadelphia singer, songwriter and a member of the collective, DivaNation. For over 40 years, she has been a part of the Philly Jazz scene. At 15, she embarked on a professional career as a Jazz singer when her sister secretly entered her in a singing contest at the Venus Lounge on Broad Street. Belting out ‘Always’ by Irving Berlin, won her the coveted prize of a two-week paid singing gig. The first time she sang in New York City was with the Eddie Green Trio, Tyrone Brown and Yusef Lateef. As she reflects on her career and the wonderful artists that she has worked with, she stopped short of naming names and simply said, “I have been blessed to have performed with Philly’s greatest!”

AlonzoH. Alonzo Jennings is a New Jersey-based, retired art teacher who dabbles in poetry and photography. He is a graduate of Montclair State University and Princeton University. He began shooting 35mm photography in 1965. He began photographing Jazz Musicians after relocating from Nigeria to Philadelphia in the mid 1970s. He has photographed many of the worlds greatest jazz musicians in venues from the small clubs to the great jazz festivals at Newport, Detroit and New York. Jenning's poetry addresses themes of the human condition, social consciousness, individual responsibility and culture. Paul JostPaul Jost is an eclectic artist. A vocalist, drummer, arranger and composer who performs frequently in New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey along with recent tours in South Korea, Ireland and Germany. In New York, he can be seen on the last Wednesday of the month at 55 Bar and he performs frequently at SMOKE and other venues. His solo CD Breaking Through (Dot Time Records) continues to receive raves worldwide. One of his originals, “Book Faded Brown”, is a song he is honored to have had recorded by The Band, Rick Danko and Carl Perkins. Darius LantzDarius Delantz Lantz is a poet, lyricist and the host for one of Philadelphia's most well received poetry open mics 'Coffee After Dark'. Darius has worked with Grammy nominated producer Darren Limitless Henson and Ivan Barias. Darius' 'Coffee After Dark' imprint has featured Tony Award winning poet Black Ice, as well as Grammy nominated Poet Ursula Rucker. Doc LongDoughtry ‘Doc’ Long is a New Jersey-based, poet and retired school teacher. His poetry has appeared in numerous literary anthologies, journals and magazines, including The Literary Review, Brilliant Corners, Obsidian, The Painted Bride Quarterly, and U.S.1 Worksheets. His work has also appeared in The Poetry of Black America, Blue Stones and Salt Hay, Gathering Ground, Let Loose on the World and A Rock Against the Wind. He is a Dodge Foundation Poet and has received a grant from the New Jersey State Council for the Arts. A CD featuring Doc Long reading his poetry, Darker Light, was released in 2003. Julia LopezJulia López is a multidisciplinary artist with a base in Theater and Poetry. Born in the South Bronx, she has lived in Philly for 28 years. She is a founding member of the Las Gallas Artist Collective. Julia has performed and exhibited throughout the United States, Mexico, Cuba & Spain. In 2009, Julia was a Cultural Envoy for the US Embassy in Juarez, Mexico. She has written and performed in over 30 plays and performance works, including New Colony Miss America and Graciela a full length play dedicated to her mother's struggle as a Puerto Rican in the U.S. Julia has a BFA in Theater Arts from Wesleyan University. Paris LoveParris Lové is a talented, Bay Area born-triple threat: singer, actress and dancer, who currently resides in Philadelphia. Trained in dance from the age of four with Bay Area greats like Debbie "Tamu" Beckward and Reginald Ray "Savage" of Savage Jazz Dance Company, Lové has also worked with the great modern dance legend Donald McKayle in the Oakland Ballet. While pursuing her passion in the arts, she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business. TaraTara Middleton is a dynamic vocalist and violinist. Currently, she serves as the lead vocalist and violinist for the Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen. She is the first woman to take the stage as a musician with the Arkestra in over twenty years. Tara has worked and recorded with JazGuardian, LaTumba, Sonic Liberation Front and the Sun Ra Arkestra. She co-founded The Foundations Singers with vocalist Janet McDonald -- an African-oriented A Capella trio that garnered wide acclaim thru-out the Delaware Valley folk music community. Tara Middleton is also an accomplished lyricist, and has co-written music with Philadelphia bassist Craig Thomas as well as Marshall Allen director of the Sun Ra Arkestra on their latest BBC recording.

Denise Montana3Denise Montana is a Philadelphia born and bred, double platinum recording artist and actress. Daughter to orchestra leader “Vincent Montana Jr.”, she is a vocal stylist who traces her roots from Jazz and Blues, to the Great American Songbook to Disco. One of her most important achievements is her vocal performance on the Salsoul Records classic “Merry Christmas All”, a perennial holiday favorite. Denise Montana has performed all over the world, including at festivals and stages in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno, as well as the Copa Cabana in NYC, Wildwood Convention Center, Latin Casino, and First Union Bank Arena in New Jersey, World Live Cafe, The Academy of Music and Palumbo’s in Philadelphia and many others.She has performed at many Jazz & Music Festivals inbcluding The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival and the Cape May Jazz Festival. BMontgomeryBarbara Montgomery has had a multi-faceted career as a performer, recording artist, music industry executive, producer and publisher. She has also worked in television and film production. She began performing as a jazz vocalist, took a career detour and joined the NBC/Westinghouse television station that produced the "Mike Douglas Show." This provided the gift of working with jazz greats like Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald. She has produced six CDs of her own, arranging and writing with musicians like Barry Sames, Steve Giordano and Aaron Graves. Her CDs “Little Sunflower” and “Trinity” won the Blue Chip Award for Best Jazz Vocals by the International Association of Jazz Educators.

SOrtizSuzzette Ortiz is a gifted pianist, arranger and composer based in Pennsauken, NJ, After receiving her BFA in Piano Performance from the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico, she received a Master of Music Education from Temple University and studied conducting at Juilliard School of Music and the University of the Arts. She has recorded with Philadelphia’s Orquesta La Paz on their Latin Grammy nominated album, "Déjà Vu." Suzzette’s own recent Latin jazz album, “Renacer” (Rebirth), not only portrays Latin jazz, but world music, as well. Recently retired as music teacher and choral director of Camden, NJ’s Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy public school, she is engaged in creating new work and writing a book on how her teaching effected her life as a performance.

bethlehemBethlehem Roberson was raised in an active, church-going Philadelphia family, where she became steeped in the traditions of gospel music. Later, she took on the Hebrew faith, merging her gospel background with the traditions of Judaism. A singer all her life, Bethlehem participated in open mic events and spoken word presentations. She has performed at Relish, LaRose Jazz Cafe, The Rotunda, Clef Club, Irvine Auditorium, Temple Performing Arts Center, Dowling's Palace and other venues. Bethlehem draws influences from male vocalist like Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, and Prince. jayeJaye Sanders is a Philadelphia native. As a pastor's daughter, she was raised in church, singing hymns, directing the youth choir and then launched out to other genres of music. She writes, arranges, and sings Gospel, R&B, Pop and Jazz music. Graduated in 2002 from The High School of Creative and Performing Arts of Philadelphia, where she studied Theater & Vocal Music. Jaye worked as an A&R in the Philadelphia area where she has worked with different artists to shape their craft and develop an image for them, as an artist. Raimundo SantosRaimundo Santos is native Philadelphia pianist, singer/songwriter and composer. The son of Angolan-American parents, Santos would spend time Angola, [southeastern Africa] connecting with his roots, as well as redefining and developing his music by studying Angolan and Mozambican traditional and pop music. adding an ethnic element to his soulful sound. He earned a Bachelors degree of Music in Jazz Voice from Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music. Santos added to his musical repertoire by taking piano lessons with Mr. Bertram L. Miller while earning his degree. Studying with Miller, taught him to play and compose a wide range of music genres. It later landed Santos gigs in theaters and churches as a singer, as well as working as a music director.

Ty StephensTy Stephens is a native Philadelphia singer/songwriter, actor and recording artist. He has performed in Broadway and television productions, as well as at resorts and casinos all around the globe. He appears regularly in Russia with the Oleg Butman's jazz trio and Igor Butman's Big Band. He and his band, SoulJaazz, spent 6 tours of Japan with superstar Toshi Kubota, two tours of South Korea and recently completed their six season at the world-famous, Sporting Club in Monte Carlo. taleseLaurin Talese is a talented vocalist from Cleveland, Ohio. She relocated to Philadelphia to attend the University of the Arts and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice. She has worked with numerous American national recording artists such as Jaguar Wright, Bilal, Robert Glasper, Vivian Green and European superstar, Joy Denelane. Laurin has also shared the stage with great classical and jazz ensembles such as The Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Jazz Heritage Orchestra, The Moses Hogan Chorale, and the internationally acclaimed Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, Austria. STBarnesSandra Turner-Barnes is a poet and published author, who is a proud native of historic, Lawnside, New Jersey. In 1996, she received Ebony Magazine International Literary award for her short story, “Burnt Bacon.” Sandra Turner-Barnes has performed throughout the MidAtlantic region in venues including NYC’s Village Vanguard and has worked with many Jazz artists, including pianist Geri Allen. She holds a degree in Business Administration from Pierce College, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Camden County Historical Society. She is a member of the National Association of Black Storytellers, and Philadelphia’s Keepers of the Culture. Her books and music are available at Barnes & Nobel, Amazon and many other locations throughout the U.S. and the UK.

kvalentineKevin Valentine is a Philadelphia-based Jazz singer, who was born and bred in New York City. He was an early member of the Boys Choir of Harlem where, he first met Philly’s ubiquitous bass player, Mike Boone. Kevin has done “Amateur Night at the Apollo” and performed at New York City clubs such as “Smoke”, the “West End” and “Somethin’ Jazz Café”. Since coming to Philly to attend law school, Kevin has  soaked up the city’s rich jazz culture. He has performed at Zanzibar Blue, Pyramid Club, Rembrandt’s, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus, La Rose, Calabash, and Chris’s Jazz Cafe. Kevin was nominated Best Male Jazz Vocalist of 2013 by the Clef Club of Philadelphia and his CD “JazzVox” provides insight into his approach to the music.

tobymartinTobyVEnT is the lead singer and lyricist of VEnT, an alternative rock/soul band from Philadelphia. While VEnT has many great influences, their sound is unparallel to anything the industry has heard. VEnT fuses Soul with Alternative Rock, while dabbling in acoustic rock, jazz, funk, contemporary christian, R&B, soft rock, gospel and  other genres. VEnT has opened for artists such as Marsha Ambrosius, Syleena Johnson and Monifah and has sharied the stage with other great performers. VEnT currently has three albums: Out the Box (2010), Beautifully Broken (2011), and Just Leftovers (2012). VEnT has performed at many venues in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware, as well as numerous venues in Connecticut, Chicago and New York.

BwalkerBarbara Walker is an extremely talented Phladelphia vocalist. She has performed in film, theater and recordings with local and international artists and musicians such as LL Cool J for Island/Def Jam Records. Barbara made her Hollywood debut singing “Here Comes the Morning” in the hit film, ”The Score,” starring Robert DiNero, Marlon Brando, Angela Bassett, and Ken Norton. She performed in The American Music Theater Festival in the stage play, “Essentially Ellington.” She has toured the country with the late Grover Washington, Jr., Patty LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Herbie Hancock, Diane Schurr, Diana Krall, Bradford Marsalis, Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, the late Oscar Brown, Jr., Nancy Wilson, Celine Dion, Manhattan Transfer, and the late Maynard Ferguson.
