Street Corner Symphonies
From Friday, June 1 through Friday, September 7, the Summer Sounds In The Historic District free music series produced by VISIT PHILLY delivers sweet tunes at nearly a dozen locations in Old City, Society Hill and along the Delaware River waterfront. Street Corner Symphonies by the Philadelphia Jazz Project feature small, but mighty musical ensembles doing their thing at popular spots throughout the Historic District on select weekdays June through August 2018. PERFORMERS:
The Old City Sax Quartet is a newly formed ensemble, which consists of master reedman, Derrick El: Alto Sax, Terry Lawson: Tenor Sax, Elliot Levin: Soprano & Tenor Sax and Tim Price: Baritone Sax. Between them there is over 150 years of musical experiences within this group. Summer Sounds In The Historic District provides us with the opportunity to experience this special group.
Josh Lee is a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxopones. Lee is a graduate of Temple University - Boyer College of Music. Josh has performed with ensembles like Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia, Norman David and the Eleventet and the New York Classics. He is co-founder of Jazz Lives Philadelphia and leads Josh Lee and the Family, The Life Brass Band and the Jazz Lives Philadelphia Big Band.
Tim Price is a saxophonist, educator and composer from Reading, Pennsylvania and he teaches jazz saxophone at the New School University in New York City. During his career, Price has performed with musicians like Bennie Green, Lew Tabackin, Ray Drummond, Jon Mayer, Don Patterson, Alan Dawson, Bill Doggett and many others. Tim Price breathes fire through his horn. Enjoy the heat.
Big Brass 4tet is an ensemble formwed expressly for this Pop-Up concert series. The members of this group are composer who write their own music and are all leaders of their own groups. Summer Sounds In The Historic District provides us with the opportunity to experience this special group. Big Brass 4tet consists of Rob H. Henderson: Drums, Dan Nosheny: Tuba/Sousaphone, Frank Rein: Trombone and Koof ibi Umoren: Trumpet.
Victor North is a tenor saxophonist and composer, who migrated south from Alaska to Philadelphia to immerse himself in our rich jazz culture. Since his arrival, he’s worked with Mickey Roker, Charles Fambrough, John Swana, Terell Stafford, Jimmy Bruno, Duane Eubanks, Elio Villafranca, Orrin Evans and for 15 years, he has collaborated with the modern organ trio, Three Blind Mice with organist, Lucas Brown and drummer, Wayne Smith Jr.
