"John Coltrane is an important historical feature in World, US and Philadelphia history, because of his musical contributions. He brought his own, original techniques and compositional concepts to the creative table, which still impact artists today. This would include his studies, practice and application of multi-phonics/harmonics (Playing chords on the saxophone)." - - - Alfie Pollitt
Background Information
"I'm interested in all the sciences—metaphysics, astrology, astronomy, mental physics..." - - - - John Coltrane
An equinox is an astronomical event in which the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun, which occurs twice each year, around 20 March and 23 September. On an equinox, day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet. They are not exactly equal, however, due to the angular size of the sun and atmospheric refraction. To avoid this ambiguity, the word equilux is sometimes used to mean a day in which the durations of light and darkness are equal.
The song, "Equinox" was recorded by John Coltrane in 1960. The release of "Equinox" was delayed until 1964 when Atlantic issued the album Coltrane’s Sound. Coltrane’s wife Naima named the song "Equinox". John Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926, one day before the official autumn equinox of that year.
