Satellites Are Spinning: A Sizzling, Sonic Celebration of Sun Ra: A concert series. Featuring 8 concerts from December 2017 to June 2018 at some of the region's most important venues including; The Barnes Foundation, Ardmore Music Hall, Johnny Brenda's, The Planetarium of The Franklin Institute and World Cafe Live. Hosted by WRTI radio deejay, J. Michael Harrison.
Our band for Satellites #6 at the Planetarium of the Franklin Institute will include music director, drummer, Kevin Diehl, percussionist drummer, Ishmael Wilburn, bassist, Keith DeStefano, guitarist, Charles Ellerbe, keyboardist, Adam Faulk, tenor saxophonist Elliott Levin, trumpeter, Paul Giess, trombonist, Dan Blacksberg, as well as guest vocalists, Saudah Al Akbar and Kevin Valentine, rapper, ELLECT and TwizzMatic. Special performance by interdisciplinary artist, Lloyd Lawrence. Film excerpts from the works of Taji Nahl.
The series will present a diverse, aggregation of regional Jazz, Rock, R&B, Experimental, Hiphop, EDM artists and poets. It will also feature special guest, performance artists, a percolating videoscape by video master: Gralin Hughes, including the films of interdisciplanry artist, Taji Nahl. media createdas well as a broad range of musical selections from the catalogs of Sun Ra and former, Sun Ra Arkestra members, as well as otherworldly tunes by such diverse artists as Parliament/Funkadelic, Outkast, Benny Golson, Talking Heads, Earth, Wind & Fire, Albert King, Nona Hendryx, David Bowie, Return To Forever, John Coltrane & many more.
