If you enjoy the music and are open to learning more about it, then you don't want to miss 3 short films that are coming our way very soon. Most important, there's a local angle here as well. Dr. Guy Ramsey, Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Term Professor of Music at the University of Pennsylvania and author of the very informative book, "The Amazing Bud Powell: Black Genius, Jazz History and the Challenge of Bebop" directs one of the films.

Amazing: The Tests and Triumph of Bud Powell, Guthrie P. Ramsey, Jr. (16 min.)
This film is based on the filmmaker’s book The Amazing Bud Powell: Black Genius, Jazz History and the Challenge of Bebop (2013), which is a meditation on the life, music, significance and challenges of pianist Bud Powell. An architect of the 1940s modern jazz style called bebop, Powell cuts an especially intriguing figure as he establishes himself as a virtuoso improvisor and composer while he struggles with bouts in and out of mid-twentieth century mental institutions.
Dreams Don’t Chase Themselves, Embassy, Hezekiah (11 min.)
Hezekiah continues to push the culture forward with “Dreams Don’t Chase Themselves”, his latest project, which features a short film plus Jazz Deluxe Instrumentals.
Everyone Has a Place, Dennis Scholl, Marlon Johnson (26 min.)
Everyone Has A Place is a short musical documentary featuring a ground-breaking collaboration of jazz and gospel. This body of work is entitled, Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration. It was composed by the American musical treasure, Wynton Marsalis. This inspirational work of art was performed by a unique pairing of the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and choir Chorale Le Chateau led by conductor Damien Sneed. The film features a series of in-depth interviews, moving concert footage and a candid peek backstage. Everyone Has A Place is a toe-tapping, hand-clapping, musical tapestry that will entertain, uplift and inspire.
