Welcome to Philadelphia Jazz Project

JazGuardian Live At Northeast Library

JazGuardian

As part of Jazz Appreciation Month, during April of 2017, PJP collaborated with Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy to present four special concerts in various public spaces around the city. These concerts were presented at facilities under the auspices of the Free Library of Philadelphia and Parks & Recreation.

We selected four ensembles who are quite different from each other and demonstrate the broad and diverse possibilities of contemporary Jazz music. This particular concert was captured in audio and we share it with you here now.

Philly Jazz Quotes

The stuff McCoy Tyner did was earth-shattering for me. The modal thing, the way he voiced chords in fourths, the way he used the pentatonic scale -- all those things were very new.
