Welcome to Philadelphia Jazz Project

Listen Up

Last Friday, we put on our Thierry 1first listening party. With WRTI's J. Michael Harrison hosting, we featured music by local musicians like Rhenda

Fearrington, Keith DeStefano & Puzzlebox, Odean Pope, Robert Kenyatta, Korey Riker and Lauren Lark. The musicians who were in the house spoke to the audience about their music and then, they mixed and mingled. We also sold their CDs.

During the evening, we also presented the live work of two remarkable, young performers, comedian Bob McDermott and actor/poet, Thierry Lundy [Pictured Above]. They were crazy!!! The turnout was great, the energy in the room was wonderful. The food… delicious and the beverages were flowing. [Special thanks to Flying Fish Brewing Company for aiding the beverage flow.] And it was all free of charge. It surprised us that so many people had never been to Fleisher Art Memorial, one of the most important, cultural institutions in our fair city. We were happy to have introduced them to it. [You too, if you've never checked it out.]

So, what's next?

Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.
At The Gershman Y,  401 South Broad Street,

Philadelphia Jazz Project presents a Community Conversation...
What Is A Jazz Singer?

We'll be joined by special guests, jazz singer/educator, Joanna Pascale, Veteran R&B Singer & Clef Club Managing Director, Don Gardner, jazz singer/educator, Mary Ellen Desmond, and jazz singer and alto saxophonist, Marion Salaam.

We'll be tackling such questions as…
• If we could cook up a Jazz singer, what would the ingredients be?
• What are the differences between a Jazz song and a Pop song?
• How does a singer come to "own" a song?

Philly Jazz Quotes

Jazz is a phenomenon. …it's an element that was created that almost lacks definition. Because it's endless.
