Welcome to Philadelphia Jazz Project

May Daze

dz hour laff

It's May already!!

April was a great month for PJP! April 2014 was Jazz Appreciation Month and it offered 30 days of magic and music. We called it Philly JAM 2014 and PJP presented four Dizzy Gillespie inspired Happy Hours, one Hiphop+Jazz tribute to Gil Scott Heron at World Cafe Live, two Free Concerts [Band Burrage & Tal Shutuhl Trio] at the Free Library of Philadelphia, eight free dance classes at the 52 Street YMCA, one special, spontaneous, pop up concert of Tenor Madness at the Reading Terminal Market, one special press conference at City Hall celebrating saxophonist Benny Golson and showcasing the Francois Zayas trio, and one rocking Kids Jazz Party with Robert Kenyatta and company.

According to our partner, Michael Ricci of Jazz Near You, the Philadelphia area was host to over 300 some odd events this month. That’s remarkable and speaks loudly that there is a very active Jazz scene here that is looking for friends, audience members and fans.

If you came out and witnessed any of those 300 some odd events, we ask you to become a Philly Jazz Ambassador and share what you experienced with your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. This could probably be the most important thing that any of us can do to support the music. The more people that show up at concerts and other events, the more concerts and other events we will have. If we serve as ambassadors and spread the word about the wonderful musical talents and brilliant Jazz creators that live and work here amongst us, people who trust us will take a chance to come out and witness it for themselves.

Get up. Stand up. Spread the word!!!

Philly Jazz Quotes

Jazz is a phenomenon. …it's an element that was created that almost lacks definition. Because it's endless.
