Philadelphia Jazz Project & WRTI Present: Orkestra Rumpilezz Produced with PhillyCAM
On Friday, July 31, 2015, Philadelphia experienced for the first time, the powerful, musical magic of the Brazilian big band, Orkestra Rumpilezz, led by the remarkable, saxophonist, composer, conduct and educator, Letieres Leite. On their very first U.S. tour, this Brazilian big band, by way of the state of Bahia and the city of Salvador, joined by Afro-Cuban Jazz pianist Arturo O’Farrill and trumpeter and musical adventurer, Steven Bernstein shared an unforgettable evening with over 600 ecstatic Philadelphians. The collaborative team of PJP, WRTI and PhillyCAM recorded the entire affair. These recordings culminated in a 60 minute video, which our colleagues at PhillyCAM graciously entered into this competition.
The Alliance for Community Media
Founded in 1976, the Alliance represents over 3,000 Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media center throughout the country. The ACM works to protect the interests of these access centers and those who use PEG facilities and equipment to advance their causes through cable television and the Internet.
The Hometown Media Awards
Previously named the Hometown Video Awards, the name change to Hometown Media Awards reflects the wider array of media being used by Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels.
The Hometown Media Awards honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on PEG access cable television channels. Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way.
