Join Philadelphia Jazz Project’s Homer Jackson as he participates in an upcoming online dialogue entitled, "Philly Jazz Talks About WRTI."
This production of the Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Project presents a cordial discussion with WRTI Jazz Radio Alumni to talk about the role of Philly community radio, the musical commitment with listeners, and the future of jazz radio.
Sponsored by the Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Project and the 12th in an online series focusing on the many aspects of jazz in Philadelphia, past and present. This discussion will center on Temple University's public radio station WRTI with notables former WRTI music director and Peabody award -winning producer Steve Rowland and former WRTI radio host and Philadelphia Jazz Project director Homer Jackson. In addition, Steve Robinson, classical and jazz radio veteran, head of New Media Productions, and formerly the general manager of Chicago's WFMT Radio Network will join the discussion.
Over the years, Philadelphia jazz fans have watched WRTI change from a 24/7 station with an all jazz format to a hybrid station that includes classical programming. This distinguished panel will talk about what the role of community radio should be, has WRTI fulfilled its early promise, and how university music formats affect the city's listeners.
This zoom event will be hosted by Dr. Suzanne Cloud, singer and director of the Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Project.
