Back in 2014, Leo Gadson of Producers Guild, Adam Feldman of the Free Library of Philadelphia and Homer Jackson of the Philadelphia Jazz Project met to discuss a new concert series. It was called the Mysterious Traveler Concert Series. The series presented monthly concerts from September through May, showcasing young and not so young, Philadelphia Jazz artists.
Musicians participating in the series collaborated with librarians and made music from titles in the Library's vast collections. They explored voodoo and the afterlife with the Education, Philosophy, and Religion Department; railway maps of Philadelphia from the Maps Collection; Brazilian and Cuban percussion with the Music Department; Oscar Wilde, Samuel Clemens, and Edgar Allan Poe with the Rare Book Department; and more.
The Mysterious Traveler All Stars are comprised of some of the best composers and performers culled from the eight year old, Mysterious Traveler Concert Series, In this special Jazz Appreciation Month concert, the Mysterious Traveler All Stars pay TRIBUTE to those musicians whom we have lost over the course of the pandemic.
Mysterious Traveler All Stars are...
Tim Brey - keyboards (Music Director), Madison Rast - bass, Wayne Smith Jr. - drums, Matthew Stewart - trumpet, DM Hotep - guitar, Matthew Clayton - alto sax.
