Welcome to the Philadelphia Jazz Project [PJP]. PJP works to inspire a network to support, promote, archive and celebrate the diverse elements within the Philadelphia jazz community, with the larger goal of connecting to the global community. Join us, by attending events, informing your family, friends and colleagues, by supporting the artists of our community and by informing us and the arts community about the kinds of things you'd most like to see.
We are now underway.
On Monday, February 4th, 2013 at 6:30pm, we present our first Community Conversation,
Bright Moments: My Most Moving Music Experience Was…..
It takes place at Philadelphia's public access television station, PhillyCam at 699 Ranstead Street, [On 7th Street south of Market.] Special guests, AMLA founder, musician and radio host, Jesse Bermudez, filmmaker/Hiphop concert producer, Yusuf Muhammad, Founder/Creator of PhillyJazz.org, Jan Klincewicz, Drexel University, Cultural Studies Professor, Dr. Devon Powers and Community Activist/Avid Music Collector Mfuasi Len Trower are on board to start our conversation about the music we love and why we love the music.
Then, on Monday, February, 18th, 2013 at 6:30pm, we present,
Words of Power: Poems, Lyrics & Rhymes
Again, taking place at PhillyCam at 699 Ranstead Street, [On 7th Street south of Market.]
From Gospel to Blues, from Jazz and R&B to Hiphop and House, Black musicians have spoken words of power that moved, educated, challenged and even frightened a nation. This evening is devoted to exploring the power of words in Black music and how they have and continue to impact American culture.
Our special guests include, blogger, Shahida Muhammad, poet & educator, Euware Osayande, Hiphop artist, Omar Roper and the legendary, R&B singer & songwriter, Bunny Sigler.
Both discussions are hosted by Homer Jackson
