Another Monster Bash

boogrl1Last year, award winning arranger/trombonist, Steve Tirpak, Laurin Talese, Chartel Findlater, Eric Wortham, Anwar Marshall, Jay Webb, Dahi Divine and company, blew the roof off of the Painted Bride Arts Center for two nights. This year, he's back. Same energy. Different locations. First, on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014, at The Kimmel Center's Sittin' In Concert Series, he will present a Boo 2 Preview. Think of ithis event as an appetizer. Think of ithis event as a teaser. The event is FREE to the general public. Don't miss it.

Then on Halloween night, Friday, October 31st at 8pm at the Temple Performing Arts Center, Steve Tirpak brings together some of Philly's most talented Jazz artists to scare the shhhhh%$@#! outta you, in a special Halloween performance, a monster bash called, "Boo!2"

We are talking about a hot, 12 piece band that can effortlessly play Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock and Hiphop.

We're talking about powerful and inventive singers, who make you forget who originally sang these tunes. We're talking about a rapper with many styles, who can flow on any beat, any tune. We also have Mr. Sonny James aka DJ Statik, spinning on the wheels of steel before and after the band, so if they didn't make you move your feet, he damn sure will. DON"T SLEEP. If you weren't there last year, you can catch up this time. I repeat... DON"T SLEEP. This is gonna be the event not to miss.

Featuring a surprising array of Jazz, Blues, Rock, R&B and Hiphop tunes, like Snoop Dog's, "Murder Was The Case They Gave Me" to Wayne Shorter's "Witchhunt." Boo music director, Steve Tirpak, is driven by the need to please his listeners. “I’m writing with the audience in mind,” he says. “Generally speaking, I’m trying to capture the essence of the song and be true to the artist. Especially when you’re working with hits – these songs are hits for a reason. You can be innovative, but make sure that what you’re doing is better than the original, if that’s even possible. I like to keep the roots of what makes the song special, and then when the moment arises do something a little out of the ordinary.”

Featuring:

Steve Tirpak: Music Director/Trombone/Keyboards & Arrangements
Ronald Draper: Vocals
Laurin Talese: Vocals
Chartel Findlater: Vocals
Aime: Vocals/Rapper
Josh Lawrence: Trumpet
Korey Riker: Tenor Sax
Jarred Antonacci: Trombone
Eric Wortham: Keyboards

Philly Jazz Quotes

The stuff McCoy Tyner did was earth-shattering for me. The modal thing, the way he voiced chords in fourths, the way he used the pentatonic scale -- all those things were very new.
