Welcome to Philadelphia Jazz Project
Coltrane At 90 - Thanks
Sep 28, 2016
"I'd like to point out to people the divine in a musical language that transcends words. I want to speak to their souls." —— John Coltrane
Many thanks to everyone who attended, participated, or wanted to join us in celebrating John Coltrane's 90th birthday over these 9 amazing days. It featured an array of performances by local, regional, national and even, international artists. It also presented a healthy diversity of persuasions, ages and musical styles. What's most fascinating, even to us at PJP, was that it was all FREE of charge.
One important highlight of these activities was the Jazz Walk. It was a wonderful day. Great music. Beautiful weather. However, PJP doesn’t see the Jazz Walk as simply an event. We see it as a destination. We believe that the Jazz Walk should become a permanent location to celebrate Philadelphia’s Jazz heritage, with public art, gardens and amphitheaters for live performances.

Special thanks to our funder, the Wyncote Foundation and our fiscal host CultureTrust Greater Philadelphia, this would not have happened without their support, cooperation and patience. Thanks as well to PA State Senator Vincent Hughes who was one of our strongest supporters from the gitty-up.
Thanks to every artist who shared their gifts in celebration of John Coltrane during these 9 exciting days. [Special shout to Michael Pedicin Jr. who was locked, loaded and ready to perform, but was in an accident a few days before our events and was injured. He's convalescing now and will be back in the game in a minute.]
Thanks to all of our collaborators and partners, Thanks to the venues and their staff, as well as our sound technicians, photographers and video teams. Major shout outs to PJP Staff: Melissa Talley-Palmer, Julia Lopez, Lynn Washington, Stephanie Seiple, J. Michael Harrison, Eric Battle, James Solomon, and Karen Smith for fully and wholeheartedly engaging in this intense journey with me. Thanks to our many volunteers and other workers who put in some serious sweat and hours as well.
